We represent the Residential Empowerment Coalition. We are part of the Together for Beaufort County initiative. The mission of the REC is to reduce homelessness by enhancing member organizations’ capacity to provide comprehensive residential support services and facilitate inter-agency collaboration.

The Point-In-Time Count (PIT) is a nationwide event that occurs every year to capture a count of the number of people experiencing homelessness in our nation. The PIT Count is important because it allows for crucial data that is needed leveraging for The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to allocate federal funding for programs aimed at preventing and ending homelessness. Communities seeking federal assistance must participate in annual PIT counts to be eligible.

Last year, community leaders coordinated alongside the Lowcountry Continuum of Care to conduct the PIT Count, resulting in our community’s most successful count to date. The success of this count, and the importance of ongoing successes in future counts, will result in additional federal aid being directed to local human service agencies serving populations experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity. We are committed to ensuring that this process continues to develop and improve over time.

The PIT Count could not be possible without the dedication and hard work of our community leaders, organizations, and volunteers. Community leaders are actively working to recruit volunteers to go out and conduct the PIT Count in late January 2024. Your donation today will help us purchase items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, hand warmers, headlamps or flashlights with batteries, socks, underwear, t-shirts, environmentally friendly wipes and toiletries, reusable water bottles, and food items. Each gratitude bag will also include information on available community resources which will help connect many individuals with vital services.

Please reach out to the PIT Count Coordinator if you have any questions or concerns.

We greatly appreciate your support and look forward to working together to make this year's PIT Count a success. Your involvement will help us enhance the lives of individuals experiencing homelessness in our community.
